Renovating a villa usually means dealing with the joinery sooner or later. Sashes rot, sills split, and an extension needs new windows and doors that look like they were always there. Westpine Joinery has been making timber windows and doors for Auckland homes since 1989, and much of our work is for villa, bungalow and other character homes.

Everything is made to measure in our own workshop at 7 Binsted Road, New Lynn, so we can build to the sizes and details your house already has rather than forcing it to fit a standard range.

Matching your villa’s existing profiles

Villa joinery has its own look: the moulding on the sash, the shape of the sill, the proportions of the glazing bars. We can replicate existing heritage profiles so new windows and doors sit alongside the originals without standing out. Where a design calls for something that doesn’t exist yet, we can develop a custom profile to your architect’s specification.

Timber window replacement for villas

When original windows are past saving, replacing them in timber keeps the character of the house. The windows we make most often for villa renovations are:

• Double hung sash windows, the vertically sliding sashes typical of Auckland villas.
• Bay windows and bungalow style windows, with options such as sill horns, glazing bars and facings.
• Casement and awning windows for extensions, kitchens and bathrooms.

Doors for villas and character homes

A villa renovation often opens the back of the house to the garden or deck. Timber French doors, colonial French doors and bi-fold doors do that while keeping a traditional look. At the front, a made-to-order timber entrance door can be built to suit the period of the house. Inside, we also make internal doors and cavity sliders.

Double glazing in a traditional look

Double glazing is available across our window range, so a renovated villa can be warmer and quieter without losing its timber joinery. We can also pre-prime units so they arrive ready for finishing.

Timber, standards and guarantee

• Timber: we work with pine, cedar, rimu, kauri and macrocarpa. Cedar is our usual recommendation because it is stable, strong and resists warping in New Zealand conditions.
• Tested: our windows and doors are tested to NZS 4211, the New Zealand standard for wind load, water penetration, air leakage and operation.
• Guarantee: exterior joinery carries a 5-year guarantee when finished as set out in our warranty and care requirements.
